There are millions of people who suffer from dental anxiety, and as a result, they put off or avoid going to the periodontist entirely. The good news about innovation is that it often helps people who struggle with certain things, such as sitting in a dental chair. Sedation dentistry is a readily available option from Dr. Curry Leavitt and the professionals at Red Rock Periodontics & Implantology.
You Are Not Alone With Your Dental Anxiety
Approximately 15 percent of people in the U.S. suffer from some form of dental anxiety. There can be many reasons for feeling anxious about a visit to a dental office. Some people have had bad or painful experiences in the past and do not want that to happen again. Some people have a fear of needles or tools in their mouths, so dental treatment seems to be out of the question. Other people may just be anxious about treatment in general and experience an elevated heart rate and sweaty palms. We have answers for all of these.
Sedation Dentistry Is Designed for Patients Like You
Dr. Leavitt and the rest of our professional team offer the following sedation dentistry options to help you relax during your visit:
- Local Anesthetic: This is administered with a syringe directly to the site being worked on. This is most commonly used for such procedures as a root canal or filling a cavity.
- Oral: This is administered with a pill that can be taken about an hour before treatment. The medicine helps the patient to feel relaxed, and there may be little to no memory of the visit later.
- Nitrous Oxide: This is a gas that is administered through a breathing mask. While nitrous oxide does not numb anything, it can produce a relaxed state for the patient.
- V.: Intravenous sedation is typically used for complex procedures, such as surgery. The patient may be “asleep” during treatment and have no memory of the procedure.
